New Acura App Lets You Put Some Color to NSX Pre-Production Concept

We’ve seen it in the flesh at motor shows; we've seen it in virtual form on GT5; we've seen it with Honda badges; we've seen it in a Super Bowl commercial; we've seen it in a red shade, and we've even seen it as a roadster in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Acura NSX

Yes, we're talking about the Acura NSX pre-production concept and if you haven't figured it out already, we're going to be "seeing" a lot more of the Japanese brand's hybrid sports car since it won't be ready for sale before 2014.

That's a long time to wait, so Acura has to find more ways to keep our interest levels high.

Its latest attempt concerns a Facebook application called "My Dream NSX app" that allows you to play around with hundreds if not thousands color combinations.

If you come up with something interesting, head towards the comments section and attach the downloadable file/image.

Mercedes, Jaguar to Present New Debuts

We already know to expect the new Subaru Forester and Honda Civic, the production version of Acura's new RLX flagship sedan, the new Lamborghini Aventador Roadster and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, to name just a few. But then there are a few wildcards. Rifling through the press release, the show organizers have revealed that both Mercedes and Jaguar will be showcasing as-yet undisclosed new vehicles in the City of Angels. These will be in addition to the aforementioned SLS Black and the North American debut of the F-Type roadster, respectively.

If recent spy shots are anything to go by, Mercedes could be ready to show off a facelifted E-Class or possibly the new CLA four-door coupe. The GLA crossover, however, doesn't look quite ready yet. As for the Jaguar, previous reports indicated that we could see a coupe version of the F-Type in LA, but Coventry has also been gearing up to unveil a new XFR-S performance sedan. Meanwhile Porsche recently announced that it would unveil a new compact sportscar in LA. While details remain sketchy, industry insiders expect we'll be seeing the new Cayman when the show opens its doors at the end of the month.

Mazda to Build a Toyota-Branded Sub-Compact Based on the Mazda2 in Mexico for North America

Toyota is preparing a new sub-compact model for the U.S., Canada and Mexico that will be based on the Mazda2, with manufacturing to take place at Mazda’s plant in Mexico. The factory is currently under construction and is scheduled to become operational within the fiscal year ending March 2014.

The two companies made the announcement today stating that the as-of-yet, unnamed model will begin production around the summer of 2015 at a pace of 50,000 units per year and will be sold through Toyota dealerships in North America.

"Through the agreement, TMC [Toyota Motor Corporation] aims to strengthen its North American vehicle line-up, while Mazda aims to increase production efficiency and contribute to its profitability," the two Japanese carmakers said in a common statement.

It is believed that the Toyota model will be based on the next generation of the Mazda2, while speaking to Autonews, Toyota spokesman Dion Corbett clarified that it will be a new offering that will not replace another model in the brand's range (the Yaris in particular). "This is part of our attempt to broaden the North American lineup," said Corbett.

While Mazda is building the factory in Mexico, Toyota said it will invest "an appropriate portion of production equipment costs and development costs related to the Toyota vehicle and also an appropriate portion of costs related to the plant’s production-capacity increase".

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Keeps its Cool on Video

Spy shooters have recorded a prototype of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series running a few hot laps around the Nürburgring, and unlike last time, when the car caught on fire and burned to the ground, this one was able to complete the test…unscathed.

The SLS AMG Black Series Edition will be the ultimate street-legal version of the regular SLS AMG GT with many performance enhancements including a tweaked 6.2-liter V8 engine producing as much as 650-ponies, and a look to match its newly found power.

A modified version of the SLS AMG GT's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will direct power to the rear axle, while the German firm's engineers will tune the chassis and give the car bigger brakes and a stiffer suspension setup.

It shouldn't be too long before the SLS AMG Black Series Edition breaks cover at a major international motor show.

Fine Young Anibal: Canadian Tuner Presents New Porsche 991 Attack

The ever-expanding world of Porsche tunes for the company's latest, seventh-generation 911 coupe will soon welcome a new customization program from Canadian tuning brand 'Anibal Automotive Design'.

Teased here in realistic renderings and an animated video, Anibal Automotive Design's package is called "Attack" and it is currently in the final development phase with full details and a production date to be announced.

The images show an overly aggressive aero kit with wide front and rear fenders housing additional air vents, and matching side skirts along with new front and rear bumpers, also with larger air scoops and outlets.

A carbon fiber hood and trim ornaments, a redesigned engine lid incorporating a huge rear wing and a nifty looking set of alloy wheels round out the visual upgrades.

We do not know yet if the Canadian tuner has plans to match the looks with more grunt under the hood.

All-New 2013 Maserati Quattroporte Officially Revealed, will Premiere at Detroit Auto Show

Maserati has yanked the covers off the all-new,sixth generation Quattroporte luxury sports sedan prior to its first public appearance at the upcoming 2013 North American Auto Show (NAIA) in Detroit in mid-January and before sales begin later in the same year.

The Italian carmaker released an initial batch of photos of both the exterior and interior of its flagship sedan model, but for the time being, it is not divulging any specific details about the car with which it will be represented in the luxury segment with rivals such as the BMW 7-Series,Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Jaguar XJ.

On the outside and even though we don't have any numbers in our hands yet, it becomes quickly clear that the Quattroporte is longer than its predecessor, while the styling is purely evolutionary.

Lorenzo Ramaciotti, Head of Maserati Design Centre, explains: "Its style was born out of the guiding design principles of Maserati: harmony of shapes, dynamism of lines and Italian elegance. More generous in size when compared to the previous model, the new Quattroporte has a design that is at once graceful and sinuous, fashioned to bring out the sporty nature of the car."

He continued: "Some of the elements characterising the previous model have been purposely maintained: the front grille, the three side vents and the triangular C pillar. At the same time new style and functional features have been introduced: the strong belt line that runs through the entire side of the car giving the new Quattroporte a look and feel that is at once muscular and elegant, with frameless doors and three side windows."

It is believed that while bigger, the new Quattroporte will be lighter than the outgoing model, thanks to the extended use of aluminum and other weigh-saving materials.

The interior design of the Italian sports saloon is minimalistic and elegant, with Maserati saying that it also offers more space.

"Inside, the design of the Quattroporte aims at essentiality, stressing the simplicity of lines and the full functionality of the on-board instrumentation," said Ramaciotti. "Functional elements are blended with soft quality surfaces made of prestigious woods and refined leathers".

According to Maserati, the 2013 Quattroporte will be powered by an "all new, next generation powertrain" designed and developed by Maserati and Ferrari engineers and built at Ferrari's Maranello plant.

Once again, we get nothing in the form of hard details, but in one of the pictures we see that there's a V8 unit.

"Passion is indeed the middle name of a whole new generation of Maserati engines that will equip the all-new Maserati Quattroporte and the models that will soon follow it on the market," explained Paolo Martinelli, Maserati Powertrain Director.

"Passion and state-of-the-art technology, both at the heart of all the new Maserati engines that will be mounted on the next generation of Maserati vehicles, have produced engines that are not only more powerful than ever, or more exciting to drive than ever – but also more fuel efficient than ever before."

It has been said, but not officially confirmed, that the new Quattroporte may also offer a new force-fed V6 along with the option of four-wheel drive in addition to the standard rear-wheel drive configuration.

Commenting on the introduction, Maserati CEO Harald Wester said that the new Quattroporte is one of three new models being prepared by the company, the other two being the Ghibli mid-size sedan and the Levante crossover (based on the Kubang study).

“Maserati stands today at the edge of an unparalleled strategic and industrial growth that will see our presence in the world rise to 50,000 units a year by 2015," said Wester. "This growth is a challenge for which Maserati has carefully prepared itself and that we all welcome with anticipation."

He continued: “It is a growth based on those values of style, elegance, quality and performance for which Maserati has always been recognised and praised in almost 100 years of history. This exciting progression will make the new Maserati a true global player with two new production sites in two different continents and a heart solidly planted in Modena, Italy, where our roots are.

“It is a growth that will be based on three new models entering two new segments of the automobile market – and it starts with the all-new 2013 Maserati Quattroporte.”
